Larry’s Day of Service

I have spent several hours today figuring out how to implement my weekly day of service. I don’t have all of the details worked out yet, but here’s the basic idea.

I am committing one hour a week this year to helping activists, non-profits, and charities promote themselves online. I may also offer my services to artisans, artists, and musicians, but for now I’ll focus on the non-profit world.

I plan to spend one hour a week for the next month or two listening to directors of, and marketing and outreach staff for,  small, Seattle-based non-profits to assess what they need and learn how I can best serve them.

With any luck, I’ll have another hour each week for implementation (e.g., I just registered domain names for Seattle Empty Bowls).

By late March I hope to have a plan in place for how I’ll allocate my time for the rest of the year.

If you work with a small non-profit in Seattle and/or know someone who does, or if you have a favorite small charity that you think could benefit from an improved online presence, please send them my way.  Obviously, two hours a week won’t permit me to work with a large number of folks, but I’m looking forward to doing what I can.

P.S. Thanks to Seth Godin for the inspiration.
