Djembe Base Photos
Some djembe makers in Conakry tack strips of an old inner tube to the base of the djembe. The one I’ve got also has a fan belt going around the outside of the base of the drum. Here are some photos of my djembe, which was made by Kabinet Camara (who also goes by “Mungam”).

This looks pretty ragged, but the nail heads are set in far enough that they never touch the surface my drum is resting on. I play on nice floors all the time with no damage to the floor, and I play on concrete fairly often, with no damage to the base of my drum.
